A birthday card

Last minute crafting, here’s a card for the daring cardmakers challenge “First Friday” Colour Combo1 and my cousin who will be 1 year next week, yay!

The card says “Congratulations Lukas!” and I’m actually quite pleased with it, but now I have to go to bed. It’s friday tomorrow and that means I have to go to work a bit earlier. Hopefully my beginning cold will be better, but I doubt it to be honest..
Anyway, here’s another crappy picture of the card! I have to improve my photographic skills and buy a new camera. Luckily the lightning will be better later on, it’s so dark here in Sweden during the winter months.

The card is actually less yellow in real, but since I only have indoor lightning the pictures get a yellow tint and when I photoshopped it a bit the lightest paper became plain and white which it isn’t so.. oh well.. you get the idea and I get to sleep!

Another graduation card

One of my friends from high school is graduating from medical school tomorrow and I decided to make her a card and combine it with the Less is more week 49 challenge which is “Predominantly Purple”. I love purple, I really do! But I tend not to make my cards purple so it was a bit of a challenge, as it always is! I’m not too satisfied with the card but at least I took some time to craft which I’ve barely done the last few months.

The sentiment says “The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams.” Classic I must say, it was this sentiment or the one I used the last time “A walk of a thousand miles always starts with one step”. I asked my friend Simon for some help and he voted for the dream sentiment and I must admit it was the one I felt was most right too. I wish I had a more fitting stamp for a future doctor but I guess you’ll never have enough stamps?

Anyway, here’s the card!

Sorry for the crappy picture, my camera ran out of batteries.. again! The dark background is very dark violet and the card has a slightly more red tint than it looks on the picture.

The Christmas cards of 2011

So I made a few cards last Christmas too, of course! I even made a few more than I usually do and surprised one or two friends. They were very happy! Unfortunately I can’t remember who got which card since I randomly put one in each envelope, I don’t like to choose. Maybe I should go for one design and ten copies this year? Problem solved!

Here are the cards I started in September but didn’t finish until December.. sigh! I’ve had such lack of inspiration lately and it’s really annoying but hopefully this year will be better.

I went nuts with warm embossing and the last card is the one I’m most satisfied with. I embossed the stars with white powder and used distress stain to color the background. I used the distress stain weathered wood from Tim Holtz on light blue cardstock.
The brown card has the recipe for gingerbread cookies but in Swedish. I practiced using my ProMarkers for coloring the stamps and it’s getting better and better, the techniques differ a bit from ordinary aquarelle but once you get the hang of it it’s a lot less wet and messy! I do believe the coloring is much easier if I stamp on aquarelle paper rather than plain paper or cardstock. I got the feeling the aquarelle paper dries somewhat slower which makes it easier to get the color even, but maybe it all depends on technique. I will give cardstock another try one day when I’m even better with using my ProMarkers!

Long time..

and no posting here, but I have been a bit crafty! I made another picture and a new cover for my chair for example! And of course, a bunch of cards for different events!
I will post all this stuff and other oldies during the year (I hope!) so you won’t miss it in case you’re curious!

So, what happened last autumn?
I’m not sure I know, really.. As far as I remember it was summer with warm sunshine and all of a sudden Christmas came without snow. Time flies when you’re older I suppose!
I know I had to take a lot of time to focus on my weight loss (I lost about 64 lbs between August and December!) and creating new daily routines which now include working out at the gym a few times a week and daily exercise (I have been slacking during Christmas and New years tho..) and of course, cooking healthy food!
I’m also aware that a lot of time was spent on playing WoW with my colleagues, but now I’m back, I hope.. Just have to get some inspiration back but I have faith in the new year as soon as the winter is gone (can’t wait!).

I will take part in more card challenges this year and post them here, where else!

And by the way, I also made a few crafting related new year’s resolutions this year:

  • Spend more time on crafts and creative work.
  •  Don’t purchase any more craft items and materials, only if something runs out (I spent far too much money on crafts last year).

Plus I entered a creative challenge (same as in 2011, which didn’t go too well) which means I have to create something for five people (who comment my facebook status) and deliver it this year. The only difference from last year is that I’ll make it this time!
So far I have four people ready: Jennie, Malin, Carina and Martin and I have absolutely NO IDEA what to make, yet! It sure is a challenge I must say.

Theme 12: Rainbow

So I took some time and finished a project I’ve been preparing for for a few weeks. Finding somewhere to purchase crayola crayons is harder than you think so I ended up with another brand. Anyway, I stumbled upon this website and fell in love, I wanted to make one myself immediately! And here goes!

A few things needed: canvas, crayons, hot glue and a heating gun.

It’s a good start to figure out in which order you want the crayons/colors, I like rainbowish.

Start gluing the crayons on the canvas, be careful not to melt the crayons with the heat. I found it best to put the glue on the canvas and place the crayon on it instead.

And this is what it looks like all glued to the canvas. Time to use the heating gun!

I started melting the crayons on the tips but I think I should have started further up or maybe used another set of crayons to melt and keep these for looks. It does look good with the tips there but it’s a little late for regrets now. Adjust the angle of the canvas after how long lines you want. The wax cools down quite fast but it’s possible to heat it up again if the lines are too short.

I’m quite satisfied with how it came out anyway, might be better next time tho!

All done! Now I just have to figure out how to put it on the wall, but that’s another story.

Another card

I’ve spent my last vacation on doing things I like, such as baking, cooking and crafting. I like to use different challenges for inspiration when I’m making cards and this time I decided to enter the Mojo Monday challenge 201. The sketch to follow looks like this:

I decided to make a girly card with lots of pink!

Whenever I decide to give it away or anything I’ll put some text on the tag and as usual the stamp is colored using aquarelle pens. Paper from Slöjd-detaljer, Panduro and the lovely paper pad Desert Blooms, ribbon from Panduro and the stamp is from Magnolia.
